VOCALOID

Quick introduction

What is a vocal synthesizer?

A vocal synthesizer is a software used to simulate human speech, basically loquendo for singing. Vocaloid is the most popular example, but there's also other alternatives like UTAU or Synthesizer V.

What is a voice bank?

A voice bank is one of the available voices in the vocaloid software. They have a canonical name, design and other minor details, but all of this is completely up to the fandom and individuals to modify and ignore.

What is a producer?

A producer is simply any composer that makes their music with vocaloid.

Producers often distinguish themselves with the suffix P, for example: crusher P, Pinocchio P, Akuno P (mothy), etc.

Vocaloids are only the software used, credit should always go to the producers!

My history with vocaloid

I firstly learned about vocaloid because of a cousin around when I was around seven years old. She lives in a different city so I haven't seen her ever since, but she'd be proud of the monster she created.

Around 2021-2022 I got into project sekai, mostly because I'm a sucker for rythm games and couldn't get my parents to buy me a project diva. It was a fun time, but it sucked when I got some friends into vocaloid through pjsk and they got into the game and characters but didn't want to learn about vocaloid because the voices where "too robotic".

I made a whole playlist for them, trying to be begginer friendly and just show my a few songs of my favorite composers, but they didn't want to listen to it soooo...

Classic songs

There's a few vocaloid songs I feel like everyone should listen to, or that I feel were important for my experience years ago even though I wouldn't consider them my actual favorites.

Ah, It's a Wonderful Cat Life

Producer: Nem

Singers: Kagamine Len, Gumi

Upload date: July 11, 2011

A stray cat and a housed one talk about their dreams and develope a cute romance.

I used to really love this song as a child. Re-listening to it it doesn't say what happened to them in the end, but as a child I always assumed Len got hit by a car and that's why Gumi kept waiting.

Meow meow meow.

My favorite songs

Abnormality Dancin' Girl

Producer: Guchiry

Singers: Flower V

Upload date: July 11, 2011

Literally me goes insane over obsessing with her crush. I want be with her but I also want to be her.

This is one of my favorite songs ever, especially a few years ago when I was going through an identity crisis.

When I listen to this, I wonder if maybe all I'm doing is just trying to run away from myself, if in my fight for being myself I'm just losing my identity. It wouldn't be the first time.

Tokyo teddy bear

Producer: Neru

Singers: Kagamine Rin

Upload date: December 16, 2017

My favorite vocaloid song of all time.

It's basically about a kid that runs away from his home because of feelings of insufficiency. He cuts the parts of him that he doesn't like and cover up and sew the rest.
